▓ ▓ ▓

For once I felt like making a slightly different type of light, and here it is. The lens is basically a lot of glass tubes glued together. The black box used to be a computer's power supply and the blue feet are made of the lids from the tubes. As you'll see on the photo below, the light also works equally well on its side. I must say, I'm quite happy with how it came out.

▓ ▓ ▓

The amount of clocks in my flat is reaching a critical level :), I might just have to start giving some away. Who knows, one of these days I might have a little lucky draw to give one away to one of my faithful followers. Stay tuned.
This one is made from a medium sized coffee tin. I basically just made a hole, installed the clock mechanism and spray painted the outside. The black stand on which the clock rests is something I fished out of an old computer. It used to hold the computer fan in place, but I think this is what is was meant to be used for all along.

Motherboard clock 2.0

Dit pas my net te goed!

So, kom ons gesels bietjie oor hierdie horlosie.

▓ ▓ ▓

Just the other day I came across this awesome website that sells clock mechanism online, and then mails it to you. I absolutely love it. Now I don't have to break apart cheap PEP Stores clocks to get mechanisms :)

So, on to this clock. Loyal Rooierwe followers will know that I have previously made a clock out of an old motherboard. (See it here) This one however, is a bit different. I decided to use the F1-F12 buttons from an old keyboard as the numbers, and on this one I didn't remove the fan at the back, so the clock can stand on its own.

One of these days I will also blog about another clock that I've made recently, which I like quite a bit. I'm just deciding if it's finished or not :)

What do you think of this one?

▓ ▓ ▓

This is a light that I made for a work colleague as a birthday gift. There is however a little bit of a story behind the story here. My initial plan was to make a light with the sparkling wine bottle that we opened at her birthday party. After making secret plans with the waiter to get the bottle, and sneaking it out of the restaurant, my plans didn't quite work out the way I planned.

I made a quick visit to my brother to use his drill to make a hole in the bottom of the bottle for the wire to go through. Everything went smoothly, until the moment the drill bit broke through. The drill slipped a bit, and we ended up with a sort of edgy hole that was much bigger than what I wanted. Still, we quickly tried to make another plan with the bottle, but then I noticed a crack that was spreading slowly, so it was bye bye bottle.

What to do? Well I had another bottle lying around, so I decided to make something out of it. I must say, for a few minutes I did consider telling her that this was her birthday bottle, but then I would have to lie every time we talked about the light...so many lies! :) So, she will not be able to brag about the fact that it is made with her birthday bottle, but hopefully she still likes it!

Oh, the shade is made from this awesome transparent plastic film thing I got out of an old computer keyboard.

Sleutelhouer/Keychain

▓ ▓ ▓

Just 'n keychain I made for a friend's 25th birthday. She is getting a new car soon and I thought that with this as a gift, I will always be along for the ride in the new car :) As you can see, I still have a few computer bits and pieces lying around in my room waiting for an opportunity to show what they can be :)

Badkamerpraatjies / Toilet talk

 ▓ ▓ ▓

If like me you stay in a relatively new flat, you probably also have one of those bathrooms with a toilet paper holder placed in such a way that it is basically impossible to reach. Because of this, I just plainly ignore the “official toilet paper holder” and keep the roll on a little table in front of the toilet. Until now.

A few plastic corks and an old bottle was all it took to make my own paper holder that doesn’t require you to be a gymnast in order to reach it. I must say, I’m quite surprised at how nicely it works. The roll moves effortlessly around the bottle’s neck without getting stuck.

It also works really well with kitchen towel or as a place to keep extra toilet paper. When a get a few more corks I will probably make another one that’s a bit longer so you can keep a few rolls on it.

But enough toilet talk for now. Until next time.

Iets vir my lessenaar

Uiteindelik weer 'n slag 'n post.

▓ ▓ ▓

Finally a new post! As you can see, I was a little quiet last month (all my birthday's fault that I didn't get time to blog) But now I'm back, one year older and ready to blog blog blog. Here's a little something that I worked on this weekend, 'n pen holder. It is largely made out of old computer parts that was left over from the cd/bookcase I made a while ago.
I wonder what the people at work will have to say when I take it to work tomorrow. I guess we'll find out.

Meant to be a keychain

▓ ▓ ▓

The first time I saw this giftcard I didn't think W for Woolworths, I thought W for Wynand. And now it's hanging all to nicely on my car keys as my new keychain.

Fragments of a computer

▓ ▓ ▓

"Frame" and cables from a computer. Guess I can put a photo in it too, but I quite like the knotted cable.

2 computers become 1

My favourite part -
The DVD ROM is now a retractable CD holder.

Ek was hierdie naweek weer ‘n bietjie “kreatief” gewees. So ‘n maand of wat terug het ek twee ou rekenaars by die werk gekry wat nou in ‘n CD/Boekrak verander is. Duidelik weet die mense by die werk nou al waarmee ek my besig hou en daarom kom vra hulle eers of ek iets wil hê voordat hulle dit net weggooi. Solank ek plek in my woonstel het…bring it on. Long live die Mikrogolf

 ▓ ▓ ▓

This weekend was spent doing a bit of “creative” work. About a month ago I was handed two old computers at work that have now been transformed into a new CD/Bookcase. Clearly people at work know what I like to do with my spare time. And as long as I have space left in my flat…bring it on. Check out what I did with our work’s old microwave a few months ago. Long live die Mikrogolf

Oh, and seeing as I have taken apart two computers, rest assured in the knowledge that I now have an abundance of new parts that will be making its way to your screen, so to speak, as new creations :)

'n Windklankie

▓ ▓ ▓

Thanks to FairCape for the milk bottle, Hillcrest for the small jam jars, my cousin for the fishing line and the garage for the old keys. You can safely say that each one of you makes out a part of this wind chime :)

Staanlamp

Lessenaar

Moet sê ek verkies hierdie Creme Soda blikkies bo dié wat mens vandag kry :)

▓ ▓ ▓

A lamp made entirely out of old cans. As you can see from the graphics on the cans, this was made a while back. It is usually inside my desk, which you can see in one of my previous posts Desk.

I must say I still prefer these Creme Soda cans to the ones you get today :)

Let's call it a "sculpture"

▓ ▓ ▓

Once upon a time I was working as a waiter, and as you can see, my tables seldomly got there "plastic corks" back.

Old cables get a new purpose

My "drukkerkabel-selfoonlaaier-telefoondraad-usb kabel-ou oorfone" lig.

▓ ▓ ▓

It would be fair to say that I've been working on this light for a few years. Long ago I removed my old desk lamp's base and incorporated the top part into a glass bottle. It never really felt complete though, but I had no idea what else I wanted to do with it either.

So this weekend then I realised that I could use my old cables to complete the light. This after a few weeks of walking around wondering what to do with all my unused cables.

And now here it is. My "printer cable-cellphone charger-phone line-usb cable-old earphones" light.

Fotos raam is boring

Verfkaartjies kos niks.

▓ ▓ ▓

I got all these old frames from home, and regularly go check the cabinet when I go back for more old frames in need of purpose.

Let's begin at the back. People always say that nothing in this life is free. I have to disagree. Paint swatches don't cost a thing. You can easily walk out of a shop with a handful, and the security people at the door will simply think you're planning a "whole lotta painting."

The middle frame has an old light switch cover which I painted silver and attached to the frame by stringing around some of that rather thick fishing line, which I also mentioned in one of my previous posts. (Bedlampie)

Then we get to the front frame...well i'm sure you can see for yourself.

So you see, you don't need a loved one in order to have something to frame! :)

The motherBOARD of all clocks

When the computer stopped working, there was really only one thing the motherboard was still good for, a clock, what else?

You will find that I almost never put numbers on the clocks that I make. This is so that the clock can be placed on any of it’s sides and still tell the time. You know where to find the 3, 6, 9 and 12 on a clock, so figuring out the rest is really quite simple.
